Buncombe County Schools seeks family input on 2024-25 academic calendar proposal

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Buncombe County Schools officials are asking for input on the proposed calendar for next year.

The district's calendar committee is asking as many families as possible to fill out a four-question survey. The questions are about spring break, teacher work days and early dismissal days.

Here is some information to keep in mind when answering the survey:

• The start date must be no earlier than the Monday closest to Aug. 26, and the end date must be no later than the Friday closest to June 11.
• The calendar must cover at least nine calendar months.
• The calendar must have a minimum of 185 days OR 1,025 hours of instruction.
• The calendar must have at least nine teacher workdays and a minimum of 10 annual vacation leave days.
• Veterans Day shall be a holiday for all public school personnel and all students enrolled in the public schools.

Surveys should be completed by Oct. 11.

The Buncombe County Schools Calendar Committee is in the process of drafting the 2024-25 academic calendar to present to the board of education for a vote in December.
